WHO IS THE WELDING INSPECTOR ?

The welding inspector is a responsible representative who is involved in the dertimination of weld quality in accordance with existing code and/or specifications.

We find the welding inspector operating in many different circumtances, depending primary on who he is working for.

The three general catagories into which the welding inspectors work functions can be grouped are :

æ Overseer ( i.e : Code or governing agency inspector,Purchaser, customer, or owner’s inspector)

æ Specialist. Is an individual who performs some specific task(s) in the inspection process. He has limited responsibilities in the welding inspection process. (i.e : Nondestructive test inspector, Architect engineer’s inspector)

æ Combination of both (Fabricator, manufacturer, or contractor’s inspector)


QUALIFICATIONS FOR BECOMING A WELDING INSPECTOR

æ Knowledge of drawings and specifications

æ Knowledge of welding terms

æ Knowledge of welding processes

æ Knowledge of testing methods

æ Ability to maintain records

æ Good physical condition

æ Good vision

æ Professional attitude

æ Training in engineering and metalurgy

æ Inspection experience

Welding experience
